Following a goalless first half, Arsenal finally broke the deadlock just before the hour mark when Aubameyang met a crossfield ball from Ainsley Maitland-Niles and poked past Newcastle goalkeeper Martin Dubravka to score.
The goal saw him extend his Premier League record for Arsenal to 33 goals in 50 appearances, three more than Gunners record scorer Thierry Henry who was the previous holder for most goals in first 50 league matches played for the north London club with 30 strikes.
