ALVANA STUDENTS WIN GOLD MEDALS IN TURKEY

Three students of the School of Education Demonstrations Secondary School (SOEDSS), Alvan Ikoku FCE, Owerri have won gold medals at the 2019 International Science and Energy Fair held in Izmir, Turkey. The students exhibited a multiple lamp generator using an AC inverter. The product works by harnessing solar energy using photovoltaic panels and converting it to electricity as Alternating Current.
While presenting the gold medals to the students at a reception organised by the College, the Provost, Dr Dan Anyanwu, said the feat was a remarkable one “because these shining stars beat students from 70 countries of the world to bring glory to Nigeria, Imo State and Alvan Ikoku Federal College of Education, Owerri.” Continuing, he said that the “College is exceedingly grateful for the hard work and dedication of all who have contributed to this success.” He promised to continue to support excellence and innovation in the College.
The highlight of the ceremony was the presentation of the gold medals to the winners: Godsample Ihentuge, Igbolekwu Chimeremeze and Somtochukwu Osuji. The Provost also awarded one year full scholarships to the students.
In her address, the Principal of SOEDSS, Dr Ndidi Madumere, said the event was an epoch making one. She described it as a ceremony to celebrate success garnered through selfless service and doggedness. She said the journey was possible only with the support of the Provost and College Management. She narrated how it began in 2018 when the students came first in the Imo State exhibition. After which they travelled to Abuja to represent the Eastern zone and also came out as the best.
According to Dr (Mrs) Madumere, the students locked horns with some of the best schools from around the world at the Science and Energy Fair in Izmir, Turkey and there won the gold medals.
In his response Sir Ihentuge, representing parents of the students, expressed gratitude to the College for sponsoring their children overseas. He said there was actually no need for parents to send their children to expensive places when schools like SOEDSS are very competent and capable.
