On Saturday evening, a COVID-19 patient was arrested at the popular Oja-Oba market in Akure, the Ondo State’s capital.
The female patient was said to be a trader selling second-hand clothes popularly known as ‘Okirika’ in the market.
It was gathered that the patient had been diagnosed with the deadly disease in Imo State before traveling down to Akure without submitting herself for treatment.
Confirming the development, the State’s Commissioner for Health explained that the escape of the patient caused both the Imo and Ondo State Governments to mount surveillance on her.
The tracking however paid off when she was caught selling second-hand wears at the Oja-Oba market in Ondo State.
The State’s Commissioner for Health, Dr. Adegbenro disclosed that contact tracing of the patient’s family, friends and neighbors had begun and also urged all who had transacted business with her to report for diagnosis.
Meanwhile, the patient is currently at the state’s Infectious Disease Hospital, Igbatoro road, Akure.
