Botswana and Nigeria Deepen Agricultural Collaboration Through MODISAR Net Initiative

In a renewed push to strengthen agricultural cooperation and innovation across Africa, the Botswana High Commissioner to Nigeria, Her Excellency Ms. Philda Nani Kereng, has reaffirmed Botswana’s commitment to sharing its agricultural expertise with Nigeria to drive productivity, sustainability, and inclusive growth in the livestock sector.

Speaking during a series of engagements in Nasarawa State, Ms. Kereng emphasized the importance of technology-driven partnerships in transforming Africa’s food systems and empowering rural communities.

The High Commissioner joined the MODISAR Net team on a strategic site visit to the Manchong Integrated Farm, where discussions focused on developing partnership models for fodder production and establishing the farm as a demonstration and training hub for cattle breeding, fodder management, and allied agricultural services.

“Botswana has built a strong foundation in smart agriculture and livestock management. By sharing our expertise and learning from Nigeria’s dynamic agricultural landscape, we can create sustainable solutions that empower farmers and strengthen food systems across the continent,” Ms. Kereng said.

As part of the mission, the delegation also met with the Centre for Agriculture & Social Inclusion (ACASI), led by its Founder and Programme Director, Amina Abdulsalam, to explore strategic synergies in cattle-production technologies, farmer capacity-building, and inclusive development programmes.

These discussions underscored how Botswana’s technological advancements can complement Nigeria’s agricultural ambitions, opening doors for joint innovation and investment that benefit both nations.

Ms. Kereng noted that Botswana’s partnership through MODISAR Net reflects a broader vision of Pan-African collaboration, where knowledge sharing and digital innovation become the backbone of agricultural transformation.

“This collaboration is not just about technology — it is about people, partnerships, and the future of African agriculture,” she added. “Together, we can advance food security, create jobs, and build a more resilient and inclusive agricultural sector for our shared prosperity.”

The visit marks another milestone in Botswana’s efforts to strengthen bilateral ties with Nigeria through innovation, sustainability, and south-south cooperation — reaffirming Botswana’s growing footprint in Africa’s agricultural advancement.
